James completed his undergraduate education at UC Berkeley, in Northern California, and his PhD in psychology and architecture at the University of Lund, in Lund Sweden.
Throughout his 25+ year career as a post-secondary teacher, researcher and administrator, he has focussed on providing solutions for real world problems. His particular teaching and research areas have been related to how to make environments, technologies, and products work best for older adults and persons with disabilities.
His three primary appointments since coming to Canada in 1991 were an endowded research position in Gerontology at Simon Fraser University, 10 years at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (research division), and now as the inaugural Dean of Research at Humber College in Toronto.
